In the beginning God created man to be holy, in His own image, so that He would be able to be in constant fellowship and communion with him. Sin removed the holy estate of man, which was required in order for man to have a relationship with our Holy God. Sin severed that relationship and caused a breach that only God alone could repair. Prompted by His love for man (“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. John 3:16), God provided a ransom of forgiveness that would redeem man, thus making him free from the bondage of alienation from God. Without forgiveness there would be no way for man to be free to serve God and be in relationship with Him. Without forgiveness man would remain in bondage.
