The show today will be a continuation of our black history month celebration through music. The second part of our journey will take place starting in the mid-1970s when black musical artists began to voice their views and displeasure with the world around them. Musical artists began utilizing their music to speak about teen pregnancy, economic plight, racism, and violence in the African American community.
We also saw the emergence of a new form of music called rap that provided America with a more definitive explanation about what was happening in America's inner cities. Rap groups Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy, Geto Boys, and NWA provided insight through music that energized a new generation to take action and pride in their communities.
