Our Guest tonight is Marietta Carter a licensed practitioner with the Centers for Spiritual Living (CSL). CSL is based on a spiritual philosophy founded by Dr. Ernest Holmes. Marietta recounts her amazing spiritual journey tonight. At the age of 19 was in a car wreck that killed her best girlfriend. She suffered injuries including 162 fractured or broken bones, a punctured and deflated lung, blood clots, infections, and was in a coma for months. She became addicted to morphine while under doctors' supervision. Later fled that abusive relationship only to become homeless. The only thing that really kept her going was her ability to renew an academic scholarship at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. I did not have the awareness to realize at that time that my prayers were being answered she said.
Ernest Holmes was a New Thought/metaphysical teacher and leader. He founded the International Religious Science movement and in 1926 wrote the Science of Mind textbook. Dr. Holmes summarized the beliefs found in the 7 major religions of the world. These beliefs include, “love your neighbor as thyself.” His major influences included Judge Thomas Troward, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Phinea Quimby and Emma Curtis Hopkins. Dr. Homes was drawn to the belief in the power of the mind for healing and fulfillment of life. email@example.com
