Teresa Coomer Mays & Donnie Benton
Local couple appearing in popular Moonshine show on Discovery Channel
Donnie Benton & Teresa Coomer Mays both of Lee County is part of the new cast for the 8th season of the Moonshiners Show and here’s what they had to say about it:
-Why the Moonshiners Show?
It’s about carrying on traditions and learning more about our heritage. Most all of us have someone in our family history that made moonshine. A lot of families in this area were raised on the money made from illegal liquor. People back in the old days had unbelievable survival skills and determination. Learning more about the history and heritage of the art of making moonshine will give you a much greater respect for your ancestors and what they went through. Making moonshine takes skill and smarts, it’s not an easy task.
Donnie Benton grew up in Old Landing Ky. His granddaddy was a Moonshiner. His Grandaddy always told him “there’s no good in making moonshine, so you shouldn’t do it” Donnie says what better way to get someone to do something, than to tell them they can’t, and I think my Grandpa knew that....
Teresa Coomer Mays grew up on Log Shoal holler in Primrose Ky. In that holler her grandpa and great uncle made Moonshine. Teresa is now learning more about the art from her boyfriend Donnie Benton.
Tune in every Wednesday night at 9:00pm on the Discovery Channel for the Moonshiners Show.
