John 11:1-45

1 Now one Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary, and her sister Martha, was sick. 2 (It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick) 3 Therefore his sisters sent to him, saying, Lord, behold he whom thou lovest is sick. 4 Jesus hearing it, said, This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified thereby. 5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. 6 So after he had heard that he was sick, he abode still two days in the place where he was. 7 Then after this he saith to the disciples, Let us go into Judea again. 8 The disciples say to him, Master, the Jews but now sought to stone thee, and goest thou thither again? 9 Jesus answered. Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. 10 But if any man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because the light is not in him. 11 Thus he spake, and after that he saith to them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go to awake him. 12 Then the disciples said, Lord, if he sleep, he will recover. 13 Jesus spake of his death; but they thought he had spoken of the natural rest in sleep. 14 Then said Jesus to them plainly, Lazarus is dead. 15 And I am glad for your sake I was not there, that ye may believe: but let us go to him. 16 Then said Thomas, called Didymus, to his fellow-disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
17 When Jesus came, he found he had been now four days in the tomb. 18 (Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off.) 19 And many of the Jews were come to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
