Dr. Tomika Ferguson is assistant professor and co-coordinator of the Doctor of Education program in the Department of Educational Leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Her scholarship examines the experiences of girls and women of color, intercollegiate athletics, and the professional development of educators regarding issues of equity and inclusion. Her work has been featured in Diverse Issues in Higher Education, Journal of College Student Development, and College Student Affairs Journal.

She is the founder of Black Athlete Sister Circle (BASC), a holistic student development program for Black women student-athletes in higher education. Since 2016, BASC has served student-athletes at James Madison University and VCU.  She's shared her expertise on domestic and international campuses. 

Dr. Ferguson received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia (UVa). She earned a full scholarship after walking onto the track & field team, was a two-time All American, and holds the school record in women's triple jump. She was a volunteer assistant track & field coach at UVa and Indiana University (IU), after being a finalist at the 2008 Olympic Trials. She received her master’s and doctoral degrees from IU in Higher Education.
