Kiara McClendon is a graduate of Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s in Communication and Africans Studies and Master’s in Health Communication. She received her second Master’s of Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. A New Jersey native, McClendon currently resides in Columbus, OH working as a Learning Specialist where she mentors at risk student-athletes through their college transitions, supporting their academic preparedness and academic success from early arrival through graduation. She also serves as a leader for several student-athlete development programs & diversity & inclusion initiatives including SHEROS, OSU BAESS sexual assault prevention & education program and on the leadership team for the Summer & Spring programs, Racial Equality Group and Buckeye Legacies program. She’s worked at the Division I level at FSU, OSU, Rutgers, & VCU through her athletic career.
Independent of her full time role, she is the CEO/Founder of AForEffort, LLC, a business committed to financial literacy and entrepreneurship education with emphasis on empowering communities of color. The creator of The Adventures of the Money Mavens children’s book series and associated educational brand, she is passionate about empowering and uplifting people of all backgrounds to believe they can achieve their goals through great financial decision making and education.
