Can cleaning up a beloved boulevard bring prosperity to impoverished neighborhoods? Melvin White thinks so, and he is starting with a street he knows well -- Dr. Martin Luther King Drive in St. Louis. Beloved Streets of America (BSA) plans to rebuild a downtrodden community and economy along one of the most blighted sections of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive in St. Louis. Melvin is making a mark not only in St. Louis, but around the country. A former postal worker, who some refer to as a "maverick", Melvin boldly plans to reverse decades of decline, shuttered businesses, vacant lots and put in gardens and other improvements. A walk is scheduled for August 23 along the MLK Blvd beginning at the Rock Road metrolink at 10am.
