The Dred Scott Decision made in the U.S. Supreme Court was a major catalyst for the civil war which, under President Abraham Lincoln, ended slavery. The case helped change the landscape and future of this country from a slave-holding republic to one that had more potential to be in keeping with the Declaration of Independence.
