About Our Guest:

Bernard N. Lee, Jr. is the oldest son of a career veteran of the US Army. Together with his two sisters, Bernadine and Almaneta, and his brother, Mercer, he traveled throughout the United States and Europe during his childhood. The places he traveled, the people he met, and the stories he remembers are shared in this sequel to his memoir. These stories of a military kid in the fifties took place during his dad’s three-year tour of duty in the US Army in Germany.

Bernie, as his friends call him, grew up in the fifties and sixties, when the United States was experiencing the aftermath of World War II and the Korean Conflict. That historical period shaped many of the perceptions that we have today of shared sacrifice and love for our country during times of war. Those times had a profound impact on his family and his father’s career in the U.S. Army. They also shaped the personal perspective the author has of his childhood and memories of the places he lived and the people he met.
