About the Saint Francis Neighborhood Center:
The center has existed since 1963 to raise awareness and bring change to the lives of more than 1,000 children who live below the federal poverty line. All the services are free. The center is located just blocks from the area where the April 19, 2015, riots began, sparked by the death of Freddie Grey, a young black man who died while in the custody of Baltimore police. If transportation is not provided to the center from local schools, coordinators from SFNC go to the schools and escort the children to SFNC. The center is a beacon of hope for many families.
About Barbara A. Robinson:
Ret. Senator Barbara Robinson has overcome many challenges in her life. She received her undergraduate degree 18 years after her journey began. Through perseverance and determination, Senator Robinson eventually earned several graduate degrees. She was the first woman and the first African American to hold the positions of deputy administrator of the District Court, the Supreme Bench and the Circuit Court of Baltimore.
