Mother's Day is upon us, a time to celebrate mothers, grandmothers, God-mothers, foster mothers, adoptive mothers, and the like. I'm a little saddened around this time and struggle with how to celebrate Mother's Day. Why? Because my mother died May 11, 2016, and the last Mother's Day we celebrated with her was May 8, 2016. My four sisters and I thanked God that we were able to honor and celebrate her one last time while she was still here on earth! And, we especially thank Him today for the mother He gave us!
When I think about her, the passages in Proverbs 31:10-31, often called the Virtuous Woman or The Wife of Noble Character, come to mind. My mother truly was of good character; clothed with dignity and strength; spoke with wisdom; watched over the affairs of her house; and her children "Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." She was an exceptional woman.
