Being a step parent or being raised by a step parent can be difficult either way. Often times the scenario plays out OK, but it takes a lot of work and it almost always start out bumpy. I had a step parent enter my life at the age of 11, a good man with good morals. But even thought HE was a good person, the enevitable clash came between us. Because as much as you do for someone elses child, they will never be your child. I also have had the shoe on the other foot, and was a "step parent" (although not married) I lived with my ex and her two children for years. But HAVING a step parent did not in any way PREPARE me for being one. The obstacle will be there, like the difference in outward appearance, the relationship the NATURAL parents have with the child and each other, and the WILLINGNESS of the child and step parent to accept each other. Most single women with kids will tell you that its a "package" deal when you dater her (if she is a good parent). Problem is I dont think most women understand that MEN are hard to form love and are less emotional, thus they can step in and be a PARENT but they will never LOVE your child like its their own (although in some rare occasions this happens) Even some women can't do this. Being a step parent is a LEARNING process. I made the fatal mistake of stepping into that role when I wasnt even ready to be a REGULAR PARENT. You can image the drama. So here goes: 1) Are you now, or have ever been a step parent or was raised by one and what is/was it like? 2) Do you think it is fair to ask your new mate to LOVE your kids like they would their own or is it acceptable for them to just treat them right? 3) Have you ever had to end a relationship because of the other persons kids or your kids? 4) Should a step parent discipline the mates child if the NATURAL PARENTS are available to do so? 5) Who makes the better step parent men or women?
