Homelessness is a very serious condition in this country (even though it is WAY TOO SERIOUS given our "status" in the world!) Sometimes people end up homeless that never would have thought they would be in such a situation. I know most people have some family or friends that they can lean on a lil bit if times get hard. To think that I would have to go to a shelter right now, given the amount of friends and family I have sounds unthinkable to me. But everyone is not in my shoes. The worse thing about homeless people is they often get judged way too quick. There isn't a floating sign that follows them around with their life story so you can read it and know what led them on this path. Yes I know often times drugs are at play in the situation. But the thing is DRUGS get blamed FALSELY way too often when other things are at play like mental illness, and sometimes plain bad luck. I had an FB friend recently post that her young child saw her first homeless person and she had to explain the situation to her. On that same post, someone said "homeless people are people who f***ed their life up" and basically are to blame for their situation and should get no sympathy. Problem is, they don't know THAT homeless persons story. Most times we never do. Questions 1) What do you think when you see a homeless person on the street, how do you view them? 2) Have you ever been Homeless or close to it or know anyone and how did it happen? 3) Do you think this countries homeless problem is a shame on the country, or just on the individuals themselves? 4) Do you give change to homeless panhandlers, why or why not? 5) What would you do to avoid being homeless?
