It is unfortunate that domestic violence is still at epidemic perportions. The numbers are even more alarming in the african american community. Violence against women was named as a significant public health issue by the World Health Organization in 2013, which reported 35 percent of women around the globe have experienced sexual or physical abuse by a partner or non-partner. Historically, the black church has been the rock of the black community, a place of refuge where important issues are addressed. But domestic violence has long been left off the agenda or ignored.
