Environmental Racism has been discussed since the 1980's when the Rev. Chavis denounced this crime against humanity from the rooftops. Put bluntly, environmental racism is the ultimate corporate crime of convenience. Large scale polluters target low income communities and communities of color because they frequently lack the fiscal resources to fight these corporate criminals. Furthermore, such corporate criminals probably bank on the structure racism which permeates the US--including the media. While Oprah continues to be a media mainstay--and Obama fans still claim the we are 'post-racial'--the ugly truth remains--namely that the mainstream media does not care about communities of color--unless they can feed racist tropes blaming communities of color for their own misfortunes. Mainstream media--including MSNBC--only seems to focus on communities of color if there appears to be rioting in the streets. The stories on Ferguson focused on violence (which was most often perpetrated by the police), and virtually ignored the peacemakers. The fact that most Ferguson activists were peaceful did not sell on MSM. The same biased lens also controls stories on environmental racism--especially on tv.
This report will focus on the truth regarding environmental racism in the USA.
Perhaps Santa can bring the corporate media--a collective conscience?
