Listen to this special edition of the Pan-African Journal hosted by Abayomi Azikiwe, editor of the Pan-African News Wire. This program will feature our regular PANW reports with dispatches on events on the continuing internal conflict in Libya some four years after the imperialist-engineered war of regime-change that ousted the slain Pan-Africanist leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi; three  Burundian opposition leaders have withdrawn from the upcoming controversial presidential elections; the clashes which took place on July 18 in South Carolina over the ongoing usage and promotion of the confederate flag; and the re-openng of the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi, Kenya which was the focus of an attack nearly two years ago. The second hour presents another phase in our tribute to the literary traditions of African people examining the activist/leader as both an orator and writer in defense of the rights of the oppressed people. This hour we highlight Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through his lecture at Illinois Wesleyan University during early 1966. King speaks on the state of race relations in the United States which is amazingly similar to what exist today nearly five decades later. In the final hour we look at a leading figure who intervened at a critical time in the struggle to end slavery and build democracy in the U.S. The segment presents a radio dramatization on abolitionist-journalist and organizer William Lloyd Garrison, the founder of The Liberator newspaper in 1831. This classic radio broadcast was aired initially in 1948 over W-MAQ on NBC radio in Chicago.
