Listen to the Sun. Aug. 16, 2020 special edition of the Pan-African Journal: Worldwide Radio Broadcast hosted by Abayomi Azikiwe, editor of the Pan-African News Wire. The program highlights a PANW report with dispatches on the response of the Zimbabwe government to a letter from the Catholic Bishops Conference on the situation inside the country; several people have been killed in a rebel attack on a hotel in Somalia; Chicago police have again attacked an anti-racist demonstration leading to another weekend of unrest; and Portland is still the scene of daily protests and clashes with law-enforcement agents seeking to suppress anti-police brutality actions. In the second hour we continue our month-long focus on Black August commemorating the struggle against racism, colonialism, enslavement, imperialism and all forms of injustice. We further examine the legacy of urban rebellion and its impact on the contemporary movements in the United States. Finally, there is a briefing by World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus from Geneva on the current status of the efforts to suppress the COVID-19 pandemic internationally.
