What is the Liturgy?

What is the liturgy? What happens during the liturgy? What kind of reality do we encounter there? Are we playing at religion? Is there any connection between the liturgy and life? All of these questions are addressed in the book by Pope Benedict XVI in The Spirit of the Liturgy. It is an excellent book. I have read it twice and like all of the Pope's books I intend to read it a third time. Why? Because he is a great writer, an exciting theologian and I would suggest that he is an unrecognized intellectual giant of our times. Everybody should read him who has even the faintest desire to understand the Christian religion.
