JULIET is a new fourteen minute film that is lighting up film festivals, and winning top honors, across the globe. Today, we sit down with the film's director Ira Storozhenko!
JULIET tells a story of a transgender teenage girl Serena. As a new girl in her new school, she’s quiet and shy, but she still dreams of being Juliet in the school play – like all the other girls. When she decides to audition for the lead role, the competition is high and her peers make it almost impossible, but she finds the courage to stand in the spotlight and accept herself just as she is.
Director Ira Storozhenko is originally from Moscow, Russia, and specializes in exploring complex characters and telling their authentic-selves stories. Her first film “MASTERPIECE” has played in many local and international film festivals.
Today we talk about JULIET, the transgender experience and it's portrayal in art and film.
Artist Paul Richmond will also be onhand to tell us about YOU WILL RISE, 10 Year Celebration of using art to heal bullying!
