Chatting With Sherri  welcomes award-winning Illustrator Jennifer Bruce!

Jennifer Bruce was born in 1991 near Detroit, Michigan. As a child she had an avid interest in drawing but didn’t have access to art classes until high school, so she was largely self-taught. After high school, forced to choose a career in college, she struggled to settle into a major that felt fulfilling, but avoided an art major because it felt daunting and impossible.

She eventually regained her confidence and attended the College for Creative Studies in downtown Detroit, graduating with honors and a bachelor’s in illustration (and a minor in concept art). She is now pursuing a career as a freelance artist, with a focus on young adult and children’s literature book covers.

Her style of illustration mixes her foundation of traditional media with the ease and flexibility of digital media. Her digital paintings combine semi-realistic figures with graphic elements, texture, and patterns, infused with dramatic emotion and narrative. She draws inspiration from nature, beloved works of fiction, and her favorite cinematic and electronic/indie-pop music. 

Jennifer's art has earned her a cash prize and a trip to Hollywood as well as having her art published in the annual bestseller, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 37.
