Our thinking as a society has undergone three distinct stages: mechanistic (which ushered in the industrial revolution), the uni-minded biological model (i.e. GM's divisional structure), and, today, the multi-minded social model. At the heart of these developments has been the energy of transformative change--a force that is as much embraced as it is resisted in many of today's organizations. This week we conduct a review of key literature on this topic--from seminal authors Otto Scharmer, Jamshid Gharajedaghi, and Peter Senge--and make some projections where 21st century organizations are headed; that is, when--and if--they fully embrace transformative change and its structural catalyst, Systems Thinking.
