In North Dakota we are witnessing the coming together of many Native American tribes to protest the building of an Oil pipeline. Your host, Viyahta will discuss some history of a Lakota tribal member.
Tonight we learn about the modern day warrior RUSSEL MEANS. Russell was a member of the Lakota tribe and co-founder of the AMERICAN INDIAN MOVEMENT. An outspoken critic of the U.S. government's treatment of Natives and of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In 1989 he stated that "child sexual abuse is an epidemic on indian reservations"! He promoted a right to self government and an abolishment of Columbus day, which he believed celebrated the firts Atlantic Slave Trade of Native Americans.
