Your host, Viyahta, welcomes Historian & Veteran of the Gulf War Era, Ernest Hooker. Mr. Hooker will share an important part of American History that was left out of school books.

His decision to join the armed forces was largely influenced by his father’s service as a Senior Master Sergeant. As the son of military man, Mr. Hooker was exposed to frequent talks of service to country, travel overseas, and a strong sense of discipline.

After leaving the military Mr. Hooker worked at Hercules Steel but soon realized that there were better opportunities available and started additional work at Fayetteville State. While working Mr. Hooker attended Fayetteville Tech. and was encouraged to use his military benefits to their full extent and focus solely on completing his courses.

After graduating from Fayetteville Tech he moved to Greensboro, North Carolina and enrolled at North Carolina A&T State University in 2005. While attending A&T, he utilized the discipline he learned while in the military to focus himself on his goal of obtaining his Masters degree. During his time at A&T Mr. Hooker remained on the Dean’s List every year, acted as History Scholar President for two years, volunteered within the History Department, and was a member of Phi Alpha Theta, the National History Honor Society.
