The diagnosis of a chronic disease affects every facet of a person’s daily lifestyle, including relationships with family, friends, self-image, and emotional and spiritual well-being. Sometimes, a diagnosis can take years, and during that period of waiting, the patient struggles with unexplained symptoms that cause pain, uncertainty, and frustration. The diagnosis itself can generate resentment, fear, and hopelessness.

Elena Torsiello, is one person who struggled through the darkness of an elusive illness until the age of 40, when she was diagnosed with celiac disease. Elena is amazed at the doors of opportunity that would never have opened had it not been for this turn of events in her life. She has taken this experience and used it to influence others in a positive manner through her children’s book about celiac disease, Willie Villie Meets Casey Kramps in Sprueville which not only helps children understand their diagnosis, but serves as a guide for parents as well.
