In this series of ten shows devoted to the impact on civil liberties of laws passed since 9/11/2001 to enhance national security, Attorney Donna M. Adler will lead us chronologically from the 911 Commission Report through several major pieces of legislation, including but not limited to the Homeland Security Act, the Patriot Act, Patriot II, the Military Commissions Act, and a number of other acts specifically directed to enhancing that national capacity to fight terrorism. Ms. Adler will discuss the potential for abuse of civil liberties left by such national securities legislation, as well as measures passed since 9/11/2001 directed to strengthening protections for civil liberties against such abuses. She will devote some time in the series to a discussion of high-profile court cases helping to define the parameters of the relation between national securities laws and civil liberties.
