Good morning, today on The Meter, we will discuss the killing of top Iranian General, Qasam Soleimani by an American drone strike ordered by President Trump at Baghdad Airport on Thursday. Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, has vowed revenge against America for the "assassination". The dead Iranian general was in Iraq and organized a rocket attack that killed a US contractor and the attack on the US Embassy. Soleimani routinely threatened American interests worldwide. Democrats immediately criticized the killing claiming that Trump is going to start a another endless war going as far as calling the US action a war crime. Was eliminating Soleimani the appropriate action? As the Iowa caucuses near, another Democrat has dropped out of the race. Julian Castro announced his withdraw this week citing a lack of funding. Castro was the only Hispanic in the primary and was formerly the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and mayor of San Antonio. Castro is expected to be on the short list for the Vice-Presidential nod. Castro's exit from the Democrat field makes it more White. Will this be a problem for minority voters in November's general election? In Australia, wild fires continue to rage in high winds and dry weather threatening hundreds of thousands of residents and potentially billions in damages. Activists are blaming climate change for the devastation and are demanding immediate action against "polluters". Are wildfires the result of human activity? In New York, Jewish residents have suffered more than a dozen antisemitic attacks in the last 2 weeks. All of the attacks have been perpetrated by Blacks but the coverage from the mainstream media has been mum. Not a single suspect has been charged with a hate crime. Is this proof that hate crime legislation is purely political? This is admist the new laws this year in New York that free lower income people on the basis that they can't afford bail.
