Remembering John Lewis

Good morning, today on The Meter, we will discuss the passing of US Representative John Lewis. The civil rights icon passed away in his sleep after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Lewis' career on Civil Rights began in his native Alabama at Selma alongside Martin Luther King Jr. and continued for many decades that resulted in hundreds of marches and more than 40 arrests. Lewis was foremost in the civil rights act, voting rights act, and desegregation of restaurants and lunch counters. Lewis worked for the Jimmy Carter administration, then was elected to the Atlanta city council, and US Representative in GA (5) that encompasses most of Northern Atlanta. John Lewis was 80. Riots and protests continue in Portland, OR where a police station was torched by demonstrators. Federal officers are present in the city as President Trump is set to deliver a speech this week to deal with the lawlessness. Should the President place hostile areas under federal jurisdiction?
