Good morning!! Today, on The Meter, we will cover the landmark ruling by the United States Supreme Court this week. 3 major decisions by the conservative leaning court have ramifications that affect college admissions, student debt, and religious freedom. No longer will American colleges and universities be allowed to factor race in acceptance of incoming students. Proponents applauded the decision as aspiring merit while detractors have decried it as white supremacy. The case made it to the nation's highest court when Asian students were limited due to outstanding test scores. Joe Biden has pledged to "get around" the decision by SCOTUS! How do you see the ruling? Also, on a religious freedom case, a Colorado web designer refused services to a gay couple based on a clash with her Christian beliefs. The Justices sided with the business owner, citing she was protected under the 1st Amendment so as not to violate her freedom of religion. Is this freedom or bigotry? Also, a cornerstone of Joe Biden's campaign was to erase up to $20,000 of student debt for millions of college students. The decision will force payments on loans in forbearance to begin in October. Immediately upon the announcement from the court, protests took place where those affected were not asking but demanding loan cancelation. Biden again pledged to get around the decision. Asked by a reporter if Biden felt he overstepped his executive authority, he said the court "got it wrong." How will this decision change college admissions? Donald Trump spoke before 50,000 supporters and took credit for this week's decision. Trump put 3 justices on the court and more than 300 judges on the federal bench. How will the Supreme Court affect the 2024 election? The call-in number is 347-308-8933. Your input is essential.
