Peter Thompson has served as Executive Director of the Senior Center since 1999.  The Senior Center positively impacts our community by creating opportunities for healthy aging through over 100 programs and scores of partnerships. The Center received the Pinnacle Award as America’s premier community center for all aspects of senior wellness in 2009 as well as numerous local and state awards. It is also the first national accredited center in Virginia and Peter serves as an accreditation peer reviewer and standards trainer.

Peter received his B.A. in History from UVA and his MPA with a concentration in nonprofit management from VCU.  Recent community service includes serving on the Board of Directors of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UVA, Madison House, National Institute of Senior Centers, Chamber of Commerce, and the Center for Nonprofit Excellence. He recently served on the Virginia Department on Aging’s planning committee for our next four-year state plan on aging. He currently serves on the Livable for a Lifetime and Habitat for Humanity Southwood Community redevelopment committees.
