Marcello Rollando talks with George Worthington Va. Dementia Services Coordinato

George Worthington is the convener of Dementia Friendly Albemarle Charlottesville, a group that is working to raise awareness of dementia in the Charlottesville area to enable people living with dementia and their care partners and families to remain engaged with the community.  As the Dementia Services Coordinator for Virginia's Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), George supports the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Commission, reviews existing programs and works with other agencies to more effectively deliver services to Virginians living with dementia. George spent much of his adult life living and working overseas as an economist before completing his studies in psychology and returning to his childhood home in Albemarle County in 2014.

Prior to joining DARS, he spent three years working at the Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA), the Area Agency on Aging serving Charlottesville and surrounding counties, where he developed and oversaw programs supporting individuals living with dementia and their care partners and programs helping connect seniors and adults living with a disability to supports and services available in the community.

George is a graduate of the Master of Clinical Psychology program at LaTrobe University in Melbourne, Australia and holds a Master of Science in Economics from The London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom.
