The Book of Romans

Paul is the writer of the book of Romans.  Paul wrote the book of Romans to remind the Roman believers of some fundamental truths of the gospel, fulfilling his duty of proclaiming the gospel to the Gentile.  When Jesus met Paul on the road to Damascus his assignment was to proclaim the Gospel the Good news of Jesus Christ to the Jews and open the door for the Gentiles to enter. The Jews, who were God, chosen nation were refusing to obey and some of them didn’t believe the Jesus was the Messiah.  The door which was closed to the Gentiles was now opened and there is now no respect of person.  Paul taught unity, He was aware that some of the differences in outlook between Gentiles and Jewish believers had produced disunity in the congregation.

His key concept in Romans is justification by Faith. The book wants us to understand fully the differences concerning the Law and Grace.  The Law the Israel possessed was not a means of Salvation.  Rather it demonstrated man’s sinfulness so that he would understand that he was not able to save himself. God declared sinners who have failed to keep the law to be righteous if they believed in Jesus Christ.  This righteous standing is granted freely by divine grace and based on the atoning sacrifice of Christ.  This Gracious declaration of righteousness eliminates all human bosting and places Gentiles and Jews on equal footing.  Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him as righteousness.
