"God's Grace is Sufficient" 2 Corinthians 12:8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Let’s begin with the definition of Grace. The saving grace of God is “his voluntary, unrestrained, unmerited favor toward guilty sinners. It’s granting them justification and life instead of the penalty of death, which they deserved”. It is "the free kindness on one who has no claim to it”. It is God showing goodness to persons who deserve only punishment and had no reason to expect anything but it”. Grace is God giving you what you don’t deserve and mercy is God holding back the punishment you do deserve. So how could you lose with what God uses.
Paul speaks about a thorn in his side. What was the thorn is not known, it could have been, physical concerns with health, spiritual in the form of temptation or something he struggled with, whatever it was God had not removed it. Three times Paul appealed to God to remove the thorn—three times the Lord said no. He prayed persistently and faithfully, he probably said not my will but thy will Lord. He learned that God’s purposes could be better accomplished by the answer no. Jesus lets him know it is not predicated on your strength but His, He let Him know the His strength is made prefect in weakness.
