May is Mental Health Awareness Month. This episode is designed to provide information as it relates to assessing mental health concerns in children. Although symptoms may vary from child to child. Assessing mental health concerns in children can be complicated. Yet many children are impacted all over the world.

It is known that mental health affects children as well as adults. However it is known that many parents are confused, frustrated and at awe as most do not understand nor know how to help their children,

Many of the symptoms can mask themself as other behaviors are exasperated. Children mental health problems are real, common and treatable. Although one in five children has a diagnosable mental health problem, nearly two thirds of them get little to no help.

Left untreated, mental health problems can disrupt a child's function at home, school and in the community. Without a proper assessment and left untreate could also cause issues or an increase risk of school failure, contact with the criminal justice system, dependence on Social Services, and even suicide.

Parents and family members are usually the first to notice if a child is having problems with emotions or behaviors. It is important to recognize and treat mental illness in children early on. Once it develops it becomes a regular part of a child's behavior.
