According to the National Center On Addiction and Substance Abuse, 75% of high school students have used an addictive substance and approximately 16% of the U.S. population ages 12 and over met a clinical  diagnostic criteria for addiction to nicotine, alcohol and other drugs. Drugs appear to be easy to come by, with 44% of high school students indicating that they knew a classmate who sells drugs. Drugs are in the home and communities of our youth. There are children in elementary school that have knowledge or have been exposed to drugs or alcohol. In 2016 alcohol remained the most common substance abused among teens. Marijuana came second then prescription drugs. was the most popular. Then there was Oxycotin and Vicodin. Sadly there are about 1600 kids trying prescription drugs for the first time every day.
