Sexual Trauma In Males

Sexual abuse is unwanted sexual activity, with perpetrators using force, making threats or taking advantage of victims not able to or perhaps one did not give consent. Most victims and perpetrators know each other.immediate reaction to sexual abuse include shock, fear or disbelief. Long term symptoms include anxiety, fear or post traumatic stress disorder. Such may also have a lasting impact on ones relationship with other, self esteem or one's sexuality.

It appears that we frequently hear a lot about sexual abuse when the victim is a female in gender. However what about male victims? Yes even a male can be sexually assaulted. In the wake of what has been going on in the media more men especially in Hollywood are coming forward with their stories regarding sexual harassment and sexual abuse. Research indicates that one in six men experienced sexual abuse at some point during childhood, and this is probably a low estimate. It also happens in jail, prison, military, school, churches as well as in their own homes. Males both young and old suffer in silence. And those that do not obtain help risk exposure to greater physical health issues, mental health issues  and social dysfunctions. 

Let's end the silence. Help us out there. Prevention is also a must. We have to stop ignoring this issue. We also have to educate our male children as they can be just as much a victim as females.
