The Month Of July is National Minority Mental Health Month. It is a time where awareness is raised about the unique challenges that affect mental health of racial and ethnic minority population in the United States. The focus is on improving mental health outcomes for communities through understanding their cultural context, histories, and social determants of health. Racial and ethnic minority population often experience mental health disparities, including higher rates of attempted suicide in adolescents and lower treatment rates for mental disorder like depression in adults.
In the minority communities individuals deal with a variety of mental health systems such as depression, anxiety, trauma, Bi-Polar Disorder, PTSD, Schizophenia, Post Partum Depression, Autism just to name a few.
