Clint Hofer's best selling novel "The One That Got Away" takes place in South St. Louis before and on the eve of the Great Mississippi River Flood of 1993. Terri Zimmerman returns to her childhood home in South St. Louis, and her life is changed forever.

Our guest today, Clint Hofer, has lived in St. Louis his entire life.

  • Passionate St. Louis Historian

  • Former baseball player for the St. Louis Stag Athletic Club

  • Decided he'd write a novel about a character that did a TV show; while on the staff of a high school student newspaper sponsored by the St. Louis Globe-Democrat.

  • Received a bachelor’s degree in journalism - University of Missouri at Columbia

  • Sportswriter

  • Novelist

The One That Got Away is Clint’s first book and he worked on it for many years. The idea for the book first came to him while driving by a deserted brewery in South St. Louis. Because of Anheuser-Busch, St. Louis is the beer capital of the United States.

Clint lives down the road from Grant’s Farm, the ancestral home of the Busch family. He grew up hearing about the rich brewing heritage of St. Louis, and he has made use of that information in his novel.

Although The One That Got Away is a comedy, Clint is actually a very serious person. Comedy writing is something that comes naturally to him. Comedy is, after all, a serious business.
