Sunbury Press Books Show--Roger A. Smith Returns with "The Blackmailer"

    in Books

Book 3 of the Rian Krieger's Journey takes Roger A. Smith's tomboyish heroine to Russia in "The Blackmailer." Thirteen-year-old Rian (that's Ree-in) runs away to Russia in 1838 to assist her uncle and cousin as they build a railroad for Tsar Nicholas I. There's a problem, though perhaps not for Rian--she is masquerading as her uncle's coachman, a boy. Rian's bravery and resourcefulness are soon noted by the Tsar, and Rian finds herself assigned to his palace, companion to Grand Duke Konstantin, his young son.
Across the ocean, an economic depression has struck the US, and in Philadelphia, where Rian's family is based. Jules Freeman, a man who fled slavery years before works as foreman of Krieger Coach, while his home serves as a stopover on the Underground Railroad. He is then tasked with a new project, one that intrigues and challenges him.
Roger A. Smith continues to combine his love of history with a story that has been ignored for nearly two centuries. In his third appearance on the Sunbury Press Books Show, Smith discusses what brought Rian, her family, and friends to life, and how a girl who has already accomplished much in her life will live history. A teacher of mentally gifted students, a farmer, an entrepreneur, and director of a rural arts council, Smith lives on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Find out more about him at RogerASmith.com

Dr. Eva Hnizdo Jewish female doctor turned historical fictional novelist

    in Books

    About the author
I am a Jewish Czech, born in Prague in 1953.
Whenever my family thought about emigration and decided against it, they made a mistake. Many of my relatives died in the concentration camps. My parents, after surviving the Holocaust, spent their lives under an oppressive communist regime.
I studied medicine at Charles University in Prague and became a doctor. I was a refugee and obtained political asylum in the UK in 1986.
I’m a retired general practitioner. I worked in the same surgery in Watford for 23 years, patients knew me as “ Doctor Heller” because nobody could pronounce my surname.
During almost 40 years of working as a doctor, I had the privilege to see into my patients’ lives, their problems, and their solutions to those problems. I feel it is not a coincidence that many writers are medical doctors. They have many stories to tell. I am now retired and spend my time writing.
My novel “Why Didn’t They Leave?” is being published on 28th September 2021

Have You Met Her? Mary Brotherton That Is

    in Books

After years of writing and editing for other's, seeing my name on their mastheads, I took a break in 2012 to become my mother's caregiver. When she crossed over two years later, I thought I could step back into the same path I'd walked for much of my career. Life threw me a curve. In 2018, I joined other professionals to create bUneke. At bUneke (be unique), we provide a free, educational publication that highlights people doing amazing things to make our world better. Since then, we have featured more than 3,000 charities, philanthropic businesses, and individuals who are working today to change tomorrow. I still write and edit as a freelancer, as time permits. bUneke is my passion and if you want to be a part of the movement, we welcome you to join us! I published my first book in 2022, after working on it for 40 years. My second book was released in the spring of 2023, after only 90 days from the first thought to the last page. A third book was inspired by a conversation with another author. Now, I am looking to rejoin the workforce and contribute to an organization that can make an impact on the world, rather than just my little corner of it.

    in Writing

Join host Tom Riddell and co-host Teri Brown as they welcome author Datta Groover to The Writers Lounge. Sit back and relax as Datta discusses what it's like to be a writer and he will also talk to us about his book: The Reluctant Visionary
A grandmother and granddaughter both have a gift of seeing the future, but they have never met. Anna Mae is living in the 1960s while Jess is living in the present day. Jess lives in Texas where racism is prevalent and the color of her skin also makes her a target of a human trafficking and kidnapping syndicate while she struggles to keep her family's farm from going into foreclosure. Trying to manage her visions and the business is extremely stressful, as she doesn't know which visions are real or just dreams. Does she go to the authorities to report the violence in them or does she remain quiet? Anna Mae believes that divine inspiration guides her visions. In both cases, do they follow the visions or keep them to themselves?
